In 1912, a contest was held to name the newly established seaside town where rice, cotton and indigo planters dominated the region in the 19th century. The winning entry was Myrtle Beach because Wax Myrtle trees grew everywhere along the shore.

Southern Comfort is located in the Cherry Grove Section of North Myrtle Beach along the northern end of the Grand Strand. Picturesque marinas are nearby on the Intracoastal Waterway featuring fishing villages offering everything from fresh local seafood, deep-sea fishing excursions, ocean sightseeing and dinners to casino cruises. Southern Comfort is a channel house with a deck built in the channel and a floating dock for a small fishing boat or several jet skies. At one end of the dead end street is the tidal marsh and at the other end the beach/ocean. Fishing and crabbing are popular activities in the channel and tidal marsh. The 53rd Avenue public boat launch is one street over.

The house location is convenient to grocery shopping, restaurants, retail shopping, local attractions and golf courses. Mini golf is close by and a favorite of all ages. Those wanting to explore may take day trips to Charleston or Wilmington. There are also many historical sites in many of the surrounding quaint towns.
